Littérature é constituída por duas séries, sendo a primeira publicada entre março de 1919 e agosto de 1921, contando com dezassete números. Dirigida inicialmente por André Breton, Louis Aragon e Philippe Soupault foi encerrada em 1921. Contudo, após a rutura com o grupo DADA, provocada durante a preparação do congresso de Paris de 1922, Breton e Soupault decidem dar um novo rumo à revista atribuindo-lhe um novo título “Littérature: Nouvelle Séries”, recrutando novos colaboradores (René Crevel, Robert Desnos, Roger Vitrac). Esta nova série foi publicada entre março de 1922 e junho de 1924, perfazendo um total de doze números. A revista teve contribuições de artistas como Man Ray e Francis Picabia, que ilustraram algumas das capas.

Littérature had two series, the first published between March 1919 and August 1921, in a total of seventeen issues. Initially directed by André Breton, Louis Aragon and Philippe Soupault, it was shut down in 1921. However, after the separation from the DADA group, which occurred during the preparation of the Paris Congress of 1922, Breton and Soupault would bring a new direction to the magazine by assigning it a new title ‘Littérature: Nouvelle Série’ and recruiting new collaborators (René Crevel, Robert Desnos, Roger Vitrac).
