Founded and published by Raoul Ubac and René Magritte in Brussels, L'Invention Collective consists of only two issues. The first one was published in February 1940 and the second one in April of that same year, from which we should highlight contributions of artists such as Jean Scutenaire, Pierre Mabille, André Breton, René Magritte, and Paul Delvaux.
Messages was published in 1939 under the direction of Jean Lescure. The first issue revolved around William Blake and the second issue focused on metaphysics and poetry. In 1942, four issues were published, the first two issues are still called Messages, but issues three and four lose that designation due to censorship. Thus, issue three is entitled Exercice de la Pureté and the fourth is called Exercice du Silence. In 1943, a single volume entitled Domaine Français ispublished. The edition continued in 1944 with two issues and in 1946 two more were published in a single volume. This publication has contributions by Paul Éluard, Raymond Queneau, Georges Bataille, and Jean Paulhan, among others.
